Cambridge’s The Dance Complicated presents The Gathering, a brand new evening-length efficiency from Kia The Key & Firm, led by completed hip-hop and road dance choreographer and performer Shakia “The Key” Barron. Performances are June 20 at 8pm & June 21 at 7pm at The Dance Complicated, 536 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge.
Weaving dwell DJ units, poetry, storytelling and motion, The Gathering creates an immersive atmosphere the place rhythm, reminiscences, and shared communal presence take heart stage. “Shakia leans into future prospects by bringing the previous to the current,” says The Dance Complicated Government Creative Director Peter DiMuro. “Her works develop into creative anthropology, illuminating histories of road and hip-hop types in daring and thrilling performances.”
Created in collaboration with skilled dance artists from New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, the work displays intergenerational information, lived expertise, and collective pleasure.
